Jason C. Beard, Senior Manager, ETS HiSET® Program, works to promote the HiSET® exam and to work strategically with states to improve adult-learner outcomes. Prior to joining ETS, Jason served as Assistant Commissioner for Adult Education in the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development where he oversaw a 30 percent increase in high school equivalency graduates. Jason is active in community service as a nonprofit board member and volunteer. He earned his B.A. from Freed-Hardeman University and his J.D. from the University of Memphis.

Erica Carboni is 30 years old with 2 children, Summer (12) and John Jr. (10). She’s been married to her husband, John for 13 years. She loves hunting, fishing, watching her children play sports and spending time outdoors with her family. She dropped out of high school at 16 years old when she got pregnant. After 12 years, she decided to finish what she had started. She had to make herself believe it wasn’t too late to go back. So that’s what she did. She graduated on October 29, 2016. Erica took her test prep classes at Livingston Parish Adult Education Center in Walker, Louisiana. “Getting my diploma meant freedom, independence and most of all respect for myself.”

Our next guest discuss September is  Blood Cancer Awaeness Month is Actress Finola Hughes. Ms. Hughes has taken on a new role: raising awareness for a group of rare, chronic and under-recognized blood cancers called Myeloproliferative Neoplasms (or MPNs). In the series Finola’s  Character Anna Devane (General Hospital) was diagnosed with polycythemia vera (PV), a rare type of chronic blood cancer,  Emmy-award winning actress Finola Hughes is dedicated to increasing awareness for rare blood cancers, while inspiring the public to be advocates for their own health.
